The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) gives its nod of approval to the Improved Postal ID as a primary ID in the passport application process, according to a letter to the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) signed by DFA Undersecretary Ariel Y. Abadilla dated October 11, 2016.
The Improved Postal ID is now being accepted as a primary form of identification by DFA’s Satellite Offices in Metro Manila, Regional Consular Offices (RCO’s) and Foreign Service Posts (FSP’s). It will also be included in the list of documentary requirements on the new version of the ePassport Application Form which is set to be released in the coming weeks. Being the most accessible government-issued ID, the Postal ID’s approval as a primary document in DFA grants disenfranchised Filipinos much-coveted access to passport application. With the Improved Postal ID, first-time applicants merely need to submit their duly accomplished application form and birth certificate to obtain a passport. True to its commitment to provide better public service, the Improved Postal ID assists in faster and smoother processes because it ultimately lessens complicated procedures and time-consuming steps when performing government transactions. Furthermore, the Improved Postal ID may also be used as a valid ID when facilitating official transactions in banks, remittance centers and other financial institutions. It also bridges cardholders to various discounts and freebies from PHLPost-accredited merchants through the Postal ID Privilege Program. Launched by PHLPost on May 16, 2016, the Improved Postal ID is the most secure and most accessible government-issued identification card for Filipinos today. It is infused with multi-level security features such as the QR Code, which could be scanned using a downloadable PHLPost verification application, and the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which confirms the applicant’s identity and uniqueness. These security features protect the identity of the cardholder and combat fraudulent transactions. Filipinos and foreigners residing in the country of any age or profession can apply for an Improved Postal ID. Application forms are available in any of the 1,300 post offices nationwide or could be downloaded online at postalidph.com or phlpost.gov.ph. Requirements to avail the Improved Postal ID are two (2) copies of duly-accomplished application form, a proof of identity and a proof of address. Application fee is P504.00 inclusive of tax and delivery fee. ###
