IN CONNECTION with the upcoming release of the Improved Postal ID, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Crime Laboratory Questioned Document Examination Division, spearheaded Train the Trainer: Document Examination Training at the Mezzanine Card Printing Facility at the Manila Central Post Office on April 8, 2016.

The talk, which lasted from 9 am to 4 pm, was led by PNP document examiner Childa Chavez and was attended by PHLPost’s area marketing specialists nationwide. According to Chavez, awareness of the different techniques in which a document could be altered makes it easier to detect fraud.

Chavez introduced different types of handwritten and machine-made forgery and alteration, how to decipher secret writings in documents, and how to determine if a document had been tampered with. She also explained how to recognize various security features, and how to differentiate genuine cards from fake ones.

For the closing remarks, assistant post master general Luis D. Carlos encouraged the area marketing specialists to exert more effort to promote the Improved ID.

The training was conducted in an effort to position the Improved Postal ID as a primary government-issued card. It was also expected to further equip PHLPost front-liners or tellers with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to accurately determine if the documents presented by an applicant are genuine or not.
