Fuel company Flying V on Monday started giving out fuel-and-lubricant-product discounts to holders of the Philippine Postal Corp.'s (PhlPost's) improved Postal ID.

The discount for fuel will be P1 per liter and P5 per liter for lubricants.

"Yung mga customers, what they need to do is to submit to any of our pump attendants, the Phlpost ID card, and then they can already avail of the discount," said Jesica Raymundo, Flying V vice president for Retail Network Operations.

For her part, Margarita Villavicencio Mistal, Flying V's VP for Finance, said that the discount was the company's way of supporting the PhlPost's postal ID.

"So ang Flying V mismo ang nagbibigay ng diskwento para sa mga motorista para maudyok silang gumamit ng card na 'to," Raymundo said.

PhlPost Assistant Postmaster General Luis Carlos noted that Flying V was not the only merchant his office had talked with over the discounts.

"There are spas, optical shops, and restaurants all over the country and it’s still on going. As of the moment we have 27 of them which includes Flying V," Carlos said.

He added that PhlPost is also planning to have partnerships with other oil companies.

"It’s not exclusive to Flying V. We cannot do exclusivity since we are in government. So it’s a public sector thing," Carlos said.

To fraudulent transactions, Raymundo said that Flying V's pump attendants would check motorists' postal IDs to ensure it was not a  fake before they can avail the discount.

The new postal ID has improved security features such as a hologram and QR code.
